Those of You Who Notebook

I'm wondering where is the best (read cheapest) place to pick up 3 ring binders?

Last night I was surfing the inter-net and I found a package of 200 page protectors for $10.00. Is that a good deal? Can it be beat?

All of a sudden -- I'm getting claustrophobic. I WANT to do more notebooking... but at $7 a pop for a binder??? And some 'camps' want the kiddos to have 6 notebooks each... 6 x 3 = 18 then x 7 = $126. YIKES!!! Of course the Kindergartener doesn't need that many... if any... 6 x 2 = 12... x 7 = $84.

**runs away sobbing**

OK -- I need to start small apparently... 1 notebook at a time... Just where??

  1. ...you don't wanna know the price I just paid, having slid between other shoppers as I "commando grabbed" binder, loose leaf paper and 1-subject notebooks that they were reaching for.

All that to say, that yes, they are expensive, but look at it this way, you are in the land of Walmart, et. al. You have choices.

I use technically one binder per child, and one big-honkin 5 incher for the year. Each child has their personal binder with about 3 weeks' worth of work in separators(conveniently, the amount of papers that I can trust them to NOT scramble totally), and as I grade the work, I move it to the big-honkin' ($10 for me) binder that has separators, color-coded (because I'm too lazy to read tabs, but don't tell them.!)by child. I save the big honkin' binder and only replace theirs when they're too damaged to keep using. We're goin' on the third year with the current kid-binders. ;)

So, yeah, it's expensive, but I work around it.

Keep an eye out at the local office supply stores, or try viking.com. They're the supplier to office depot. :D

  2. Keep your eye on office Depot and Staples. They have sales for $1 or so. Also check Amazon. I got all my page protectors for $.01 each box. Basically paid shipping. :)

  3. I get my binders and page protectors from Sam's Club. They sell the binders in bulk (three packs, or six packs) so they are cheaper than buying them individually. I don't remember what I paid for the page protectors.

  4. I just bought 9 binders for $9 at Walmart. They're $1. Of course they're not the flashy ones out front. You have to look a bit.
