  1. I got Door in the Wall off of Paperback Swap. Have you tried there? Also, how do you feel about borrowing?

  2. WOw! An exciting list. I have plenty of teacher's manuals but nothing that specific (or advanced - I teach first grade) :)

  3. Oops.. I've got door in the wall too (from PBS) Ü

I talked with my dear husband again tonight. I don't mind getting used stuff... but sometimes seeking and searching takes up a lot of time. So if I happen upon a good deal now... I'll get it... but if I'm not done with my list by July... I'm going to buy them new through My Father's World.

My Father's World donates part of their funds to help with Bible Translations. I don't mind supporting that one bit. Plus it saves me time. In addition to that... starting with a book brand new, may help them last a bit longer.

So I don't need to borrow Sharon... but THANKS for the idea! Ü

  8. If you really like the Apologia science books (that is the one you mean by Exploring Creation with General Science, right?), you ought to take a look at Teaching Textbooks for math.

I was a diehard Saxon user until I got my first whiff of TT. Still like Saxon for the younger grades, but for the older kids, TT has the same kind independent study approach that Apologia science has.

We love Apologia science, from the grade school science books to the upper science books. Just really good science. (Am I repeating myself? I feel like I'm repeating myself.)

  9. Hi ladies, It is so helpful for me to read your blogs.

My children are 10 and 11. This is my first yr homeschooling. So...I did the whole Abeka thing...w/ DVD and all the curriculum...then within 2 weeks was pulling my hair out...ditched the DVD's. They did not work for me and with how I wanted to be more involved w/teaching them.

I have NO teaching experience...only taught 4/5 yr old preschool...TOTALLY different. This has been a learning experience for ALL of us (and a crying experience some days...although I want this to be so enjoyable for all of us!). Some days I think it would be better that they were in public schools...then I see the news and remember that it isn't about me, but them!

Anyhow, I moved them to Saxon math and they both seem to be doing well with the 6/5. The TT for Math sounds interesting. But everything I've read says not to move them around on Math, especially with Saxon. What is your experience with that Shurleen? What age do you teach?

I've kept the Abeka Language, and doing Spelling Workout E with them. History and Science...is a little hodgepodge. Started with Abeka Science, but did not like the way it jumps around and have been using a book on earth science called, How Does God Do That? by Paul and Danielle Harris. Do you know anything good or bad on this???

I'm doing Latina Christiana with them. Drawing with Children for Art and several dif things for music and learning about classical composers.

I have The Anatomy Coloring Book, which we are going to begin soon. (been using the Abeka health and it went into some anatomy)

I recently checked into a different Science program..and really like the Apologia Science. So that is what I'll probably try for next yr.

History...we have been learning through the Bible, and Abeka materials. I've thought about switching to "The Story of the World" for next yr. I hated to waste the Abeka I couldn't return and some was still quite useful. Therefore trying to use what I can of what I have.

So the writing strands are good??? I read about those in the Well Trained Mind, but also read Abeka was great too and has writing lessons...

My personal speciality is Art and Music. : )

Any suggestions are welcomed for this newbie homeschooler...

    Blessings! Jenn

  11. Hi, thanks for visiting. Your book list looks great too, I love this time of year planning everything. You know my blog looks perfect in internet explorer but for some reason in firefox and some others it doesn't. I'm working on finding out why, lucky for me most use IE, but I have had a few comments on it from ones who don't. Thanks for letting me know, I hope to have it fixed this week! I downloaded firefox tonight and was like WOW, thats what some are seeing, it looks really bad. Nice to have met another MFW gal.
