1989 CHS Football Team Remembered

1989 Chariton High School Football Team Honored from Jennifer J. on Vimeo.
Friday we went as a family to the CHS Homecoming Assembly, where the team was honored, then we went to the parade, then ate dinner with the team mates who came back home to remember, and then on to the football game. One of the coaches said he will get out the 1989 tapes to show the current team, so they can see what it takes to be a winning team.
I'm glad they kiddos got to see their dad in his prime. Honored, remembered, lauded, praised! What fun. The video is long, but it's mostly so his kids and I can remember this day.

Dan Didn't Get His Fill
He and Mansel are headed to the arena to watch the K-1st graders wrestle. I'm pool side with the other 4, while they are swimming.
We have a late check out today from the motel. Did you know you could do that? You don't necessarily HAVE to leave by 11:00. That makes it nice. So the kiddos will swim until they are sick of it (I may be here a while), Wayne just came to report in. "so fun." Then we will pack up and we'll call Dan on the cell phone and he'll come get us. We are going to watch some of the boys that Mansel and Milo trained with this season. This small town community is fun for wrestling. Our family traveled to Chariton and Carlisle to wrestle with them after the Twin Cedar's season ended. Mansel was able to train with a 2nd grader that ended up getting 1st in his division yesterday. That was fun!
TekFall.com has some photos from the tournament yesterday. We don't think we saw Mansel... although if you see a kiddos with the #56 on his hand, that was where Mansel wrestled. That was the size of the kids, location, etc.
We'll stay at the tournament today until Dan gets his fill, then head home...
ONLY TO WATCH MORE WRESTLING!! LOL
It's a disease -- I swear.
Actually the NCAA finals are on tonight. Iowa is doing well!
What a week for wrestling around here.
Anyone smell chlorine? Yuck... I'm ready to leave...
Hey Kiddos... done swimming yet?
Yeah?? Nope -- I didn't think so. ;)

2008 Mid-Winter Couples retreat... a little late.
FUN was had by ALL! (And I mean it!)
Feb 8th, 6 couples went from our church. We stayed at the Stoney Creek Inn. SOME of the couples got their room upgraded to a HOT TUB room. Lucky!! (Of course said in Napoleon Dynamite fashion)
The Creston church hosts the retreat. Man alive... it sure is a neat deal. They have drawings each day -- every couple wins a prize. Ours was M&M's. Woo Hoo!! I was pleased. Oh -- and 2 cups. Our kids were pleased. They were empty when we got home...shhh.... Don't tell them.
I didn't take a photo of Dan and I. Why? Forgot. Someone else did, I'm sure. So there is proof...one someone's camera...somewhere.
He and his wife got the right idea. Starbucks coffee, we were right behind them in the drive through and didn't even know it. (Our cups were bigger... just so ya know).
This couple - probably would have won the Apple to Apples game... if they would have played. Instead they were smart and ran upstairs and went to bed. Yaaawn... Me? No WAY! I'm too competitive. I want to WIN? Did I? No... but that's beside the point.
Why is this couple so happy? I don't know -- I think they are laughing at my camera usage skills. I put my camera on "auto whatever"... then couldn't figure out how to get it off. I was taking pictures of everything... including my feet. I know... I'm a dope. Apparently a funny dope. But you know me... these are my kind of people. I LOVE to laugh!!
OK -- now THIS couple... I like how he thinks. I won 1 card off of him... or he won one off of me... I don't really remember now. Too tired... or too long ago. His sense of humor makes me LAUGH! I hope it makes his wife laugh. It was fun to get to know her better.
We were all there to retreat from our marriages. Well -- OK -- the brochure doesn't exactly word it that way. I'd better go get it -- double check my memory.
Oh -- here it is... right under my nose actually. Of course I got up and walked around and looked for it. I found it... on my computer desk, in my brown notebook -- that I was resting my arm on. Yeah, yeah, yeah... those braincells... I'm lacking a few.
OK -- it was called, "Getting the Most Out of Marriage." Neat deal, if you ask me.
The speaker was Jeffery (Duke) Crawford. With a perfectly good name like Jeffery -- I wonder he wants to be called Duke? I didn't ask... no time. He's a NANC certified biblical counselor. That means -- he has a funny stories to tell!! Some he told on himself. Some on his wife... some about the couselees.... I wonder if he had their permission. Well -- he wasn't dropping names... so it didn't matter, I guess.
My favorite story -- this one of course -- you'll see why.
Mrs. Crawford wanted the back door painted. It led from the garage into the house. An attached garage mind you... no one could see it but the person using it. The only people using it were Mr. and Mrs. Crawford. So -- he let it slide. (For years) Am I getting this right Beth? Correct me if I'm wrong. Don't ask me why -- but one day he started painting this door. I don't think she nagged him into it -- because that would have spoilt the story. (Spoiled/spoilt... same diff.) Keep up with me here.
She walked by and said, "Huba huba... you are painting my door." I swear -- that's what I remember him saying.
So -- so that lit his fire... and he really started "PAINTING THAT DOOR!" °Ü°
The moral of the story?
Men -- even if it's not important -- DO IT! Just do it for the little wifey. She'll love ya for it.
And at our house -- we now say that Dan is "Painting My Door" when he's doing something nice -- that he wasn't badgered into -- that's not necessary -- but I really really like it. Hubba Hubba!
Like Starbucks Coffee
or New clothes from Christopher & Banks
or LADIES NIGHT OUT! (Where were you Robin?)
or sitting on the couch with me and watching a movie.
Those kind of things.
I'm glad we went. I've saved my notes... in case I need a refresher. He spoke to the women too. One thing he said -- that is very true. "Our marriages are the illustration to the world of the relationship of Christ to the church." Yikes... We'd better be getting it right.
So -- next Mid-Winter... make your calendars... January 30-31, 2009.
David and Robin Peters are scheduled to be the speakers. They folks are planners, aren't they? I'm going right now to plan.

Hey Dan -- THANKS for painting my door!!

We've Made it Through
I don't have time to tell all right now -- just thought I'd post a THANK YOU FOR PRAYING note... really quick! °Ü°
We are safe and sound.
I've got pictures. LOL
I bet you can hardly wait!!
AND...I'm still the queen of C.O.D.A.!! ::snicker:: OK -- not really -- but I played C.O.D.A... does that count?? And I played Monopoly. I played pick up soggy socks. Oh wait -- that's not a game...
I'd better quit while I'm ahead --
I'll be back soon -- with the DECEMBER 2007* ICE STORM... (Hear that said with a loud announcer's voice)
Here is a peek into the past. Electricity off at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday... back on sometime while sleeping Thursday/Friday. Fun was had by all... well -- most... I'm not sure if my dear husband thought it was fun... OK -- I know he was a bit stressed... Is stress fun? I don't think so. Fun was had by most... let's keep it real.
*ETA: Yeah -- let's not get older any sooner than we have to - THANKS Dawn. ;)

Google "dripping through the light "and see what you can see
Too Funny.
Too bad that is such a common problem.
Mine dripping has been fixed -- thanks to Handy Man Dan!
Which reminds me -- he can also fix Kitchen Aids. I was singing the praises of a BOSCH mixer the other day -- thinking I had one on the way -- when my dear husband informed me that he can fix Kitchen Aids too. ::sigh:: Isn't there anything that man can NOT do? Wait... am I complaining about that? Let me re-word that.
Praise God for Handy Man Dan. ;) There is whole wheat bread on the way.

My Husband and his Hair Dryer
Me: Sitting up straight, from a sound nap, "WHAAAT?"
We are in the midst of an ice storm here in Southern Iowa. We are also in the midst of conference championship day of college football. Oh my -- what a mix.
Sometimes... when there are storms, rain, wind, snow, ice... whatever... sometimes our satellite goes on the blink. Today -- is was blinking... and when my husband stresses -- he starts blinking. Boy were his eyelids going today.
Dan: "Do you think if I called Perry and asked to watch the game at his house, that would be inviting myself over?"
Me: "Um... yeah."
So what does his hair dyer have to do with this?
He was getting so desperate that he was going to put a metal ladder up onto the side of a house (covered in ice), and climb said ladder with a hair dryer in one hand, (plugged into an extension cord), to give that satellite a new hair do -- or at least to melt the ice -- which ever came first.
Dan: "I'll take my cell phone up there and call you to see if the picture comes in."
Me: "Um... OK."
Yeah -- riiiight. I think when God heard that he said, "Oh Dan... Dan, Dan, Dan... let me help you brother."
BLINK -- here came the satellite back on. (Just as Dan was about to step out onto our ice covered porch).
I don't know if I've ever seen Dan run to his "strategically arranged in his surround sound system triangle" recliner so fast. He's been there ever since. LSU vs. Tennessee, MO vs. OK next, as well as UCLA vs. USC.... all kinds of games on.
Now he's blissing -- not blinking!!

Monkey See Monkey Do
Like father - Like son. Dan can be seen here doing his stretches for his plantar something or other (how ever you spell it -- it's painful).
Wayne loves his Daddy. Can you tell -- he wants to be like him so much.
When Dan comes home from work, if Wayne is not napping -- he'll always have a gloriously enthusiastic welcome home!
When Wayne wakes up in the morning -- one of his first questions usually is, "Where Daddy." Then I say at work, then he'll say, "Oh yeah!", and grin.
My son chooses his role models well.

They have Big Elephants in Minnesota
See -- you didn't believe me -- did you?
Of course -- it's stuff and residing at Cabela's in Owatonna, MN. What a fun place that is. Sort of like a zoo -- only better -- it's smell free.
While we were there -- some man wanted his photo take with me.

Isn't he a hunk!?! I'm so glad I married him. He just gets better with age. He's so good he took me out for steak dinner at Timber Lodge Steakhouse when we were done shopping. Look what they had sitting in the waiting area -- who is going to tell a child, "No you may NOT eat an apple before dinner." They all grabbed one -- and ate it all -- unpeeled! I ate one too!
Thanks for the fun week-end Dan.
