Support HF 2090 - Education Savings Accounts!

House File 2090 would create Education Savings Accounts for students to attend nonpublic schools or homeschool.  The amount would be the average State per-pupil aid (~ $5,500 this year).  This bill passed out of subcommittee today and will now be considered by the entire House Education Committee.

The amount of each grant per student would be the average State per-pupil aid (~$5,500 this year).  These funds could be used for private school tuition & fees, some forms of private instruction, tutoring, educational therapies, special education needs, and other qualified expenses.

The bill includes multiple levels of fraud protection and does not add any regulations on nonpublic schools or homeschoolers.  If funds remain in the account when a child graduates high school, they could use those funds to attend an Iowa college or university.

Numerous studies have found that school choice programs improve academic outcomes for public and private school students.  There has never been a reputable study that has shown programs such as these have hurt public schools in any way.  Public schools will retain their basic property tax and local option sales tax revenues under this proposal.

We are home educators here - but even if we weren't we believe in the choice to be one if you want to be!  Make your voice heard, please.

What a wonderful idea, I just wish it had been mine. I have a feeling that USPS is going to have a lot of tea to contend with, after all it only costs 42 cents to send a message, hopefully heard round the world!!!

There's a storm abrewin'. (Jennifer says: Clever) What happens when good, responsible people keep quiet? Washington has forgotten they work for us. We don't work for them. Throwing good money after bad is NOT the answer. I am sick of the midnight, closed door sessions to come up with a plan. I am sick of Congress raking CEO's over the coals while they, themselves, have defaulted on their taxes. I am sick of the bailed out companies having lavish vacations and retreats on my dollar. I am sick of being told it is MY responsibility to rescue people that, knowingly, bought more house than they could afford. I am sick of being made to feel it is my patriotic duty to pay MORE taxes. I, like all of you, am a responsible citizen. I pay my taxes. I live on a budget and I don't ask someone else to carry the burden for poor decisions I may make. I have emailed my congressmen and senators asking them to NOT vote for the stimulus package as it was written without reading it first. No one listened. They voted for it, pork and all. (Jennifer says: I actually DID do this?? Did you?)

O.K. folks, here it is. You may think you are just one voice and what you think won't make a difference. Well, yes it will and YES, WE CAN!! If you are disgusted and angry with the way Washington is handling our taxes. If you are fearful of the fallout from the reckless spending of BILLIONS to bailout and "stimulate" without accountability and responsibility then we need to become ONE, LOUD VOICE THAT CAN BE HEARD FROM EVERY CITY, TOWN, SUBURB AND HOME IN AMERICA. There is a growing protest to demand that Congress, the President and his cabinet LISTEN to us, the American Citizens. What is being done in Washington is NOT the way to handle the economic free fall.

So, here's the plan. On April 1, 2009, all Americans are asked to send a TEABAG to Washington ,D.C. You do not have to enclose a note or any other information unless you so desire. Just a TEABAG. Many cities are organizing protests. If you simply search, "New American Tea Party", several sites will come up. If you aren't the 'protester' type, simply make your one voice heard with a TEABAG. Your one voice will become a roar when joined with millions of others that feel the same way. Yes, something needs to be done but the lack of confidence as shown by the steady decline in the stock market speaks volumes.

This was not my idea. I visited the sites of the 'New American Tea Party' and an online survey showed over 90% of thousands said they would send the teabag on April 1. Why, April 1?? We want them to reach Washington by April 15. Will you do it? I will. Send it to; 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Washington, D.C. 20500 .....

Forward this to everyone in your address book. Visit the website below for more information about the 'New American Tea Party'. I would encourage everyone to go ahead and get the envelope ready to mail, then just drop it in the mail April 1. Can't guarantee what the postage will be by then, it is going up as we speak, but have your envelope ready. What will this cost you? A little time and a 40 something cent stamp.

What could you receive in benefits? Maybe, just maybe, our elected officials will start to listen to the people. Take out the Pork. Tell us how the money is being spent. We want TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY. Remember, the money will be spent over the next 4-5 years. It is not too late.

OK -- Me again... Fox News has posted an short tidbit about the Tea Parties that are going on across American. So apparently this idea is not a hoax.

Well -- the New American Tea Party blog says a tea bag will likely not reach your congressman... or anyone that can read for that matter... since it's tea... might be suspicious... but one reader suggested sending just the tag from the bag. I think I'll do that. I'll save all my tags that I use until April 1st in an envelope and mail that. We drink a lot of tea at our house. LOL

President Elect Obama

1Timothy 2:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

Matthew Henry has quite a bit to say about this verse... Let's review.

Pray for kings (1Ti_2:2); though the kings at this time were heathens, enemies to Christianity, and persecutors of Christians, yet they must pray for them, because it is for the public good that there should be civil government, and proper persons entrusted with the administration of it, for whom therefore we ought to pray, yea, though we ourselves suffer under them. For kings, and all that are in authority, that is, inferior magistrates: we must pray for them, and we must give thanks for them, pray for their welfare and for the welfare of their kingdoms, and therefore must not plot against them, that in the peace thereof we may have peace, and give thanks for them and for the benefit we have under their government, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. Here see what we must desire for kings, that God will so turn their hearts, and direct them and make use of them, that we under them may lead a quiet and peaceable life.

The desire of my heart is that God will so turn the desire of President Elect Obama's heart, and direct him and make use of him, that we may under him, lead a quiet and peaceable life.

He does not say, “that we may get preferments under them, grow rich, and be in honour and power under them;” no, the summit of the ambition of a good Christian is to lead a quiet and peaceable life, to get through the world unmolested in a low private station. We should desire that we and others may lead a peaceable life in all godliness and honesty, implying that we cannot expect to be kept quiet and peaceable unless we keep in all godliness and honesty. Let us mind our duty, and then we may expect to be taken under the protection both of God and the government.

I went to bed last night with the spirit of fear. I was thinking, "Oh God... the worst has happened. The long term repercussions of this decision will be devastating. 20-30 years from now we will have such a liberal slew of judges on the supreme court that it will not longer be operating as it should and we will be living under European law and decisions. Our economy may never be the same with the wealthy pushed out of our country by heavy taxation. Oh LORD, I'm so afraid." Then this verse came to mind. President Elect Obama needs my prayer. I wondered if when he was declared the winner, if he immediately felt the presence of the Lord wrapped around him as Christians every where began to pray for him as our next leader? I wondered if the Holy Spirit almost felt palpable to him and if he wondered at the feeling. I pray that as Christians we took this command to pray for our leaders seriously and we began to hold him up to the throne as he leads. He will begin leading today you know. President Bush has made it law to smooth the transition time. He has access to secret information today, and can begin to make appointments today. He is already our leader. We should begin praying for him today.

In all godliness and honesty. Here we have our duty as Christians summed up in two words: godliness, that is, the right worshipping of God; and honesty, that is, a good conduct towards all men. These two must go together; we are not truly honest if we are not godly, and do not render to God his due; and we are not truly godly if we are not honest, for God hates robbery for burnt-offering. Here we may observe, 1. Christians are to be men much given to prayer: they ought to abound herein, and should use themselves to prayers, supplications, etc.

I think it will be interesting to watch how Christians respond to this election. Will they act like Christians when they didn't get their way? What about the Christians that DID vote for President Elect Obama? How will they respond?

2. In our prayers we are to have a generous concern for others as well as for ourselves; we are to pray for all men, and to give thanks for all men; and must not confine our prayers nor thanksgiving to our own persons or families.

As I lay in bed last night, my thoughts traveled down the path of his family. He has a wife and 2 small girls. I prayed for their protection. It could be that they would grow up the next 8 years in the biggest fish bowl of the country. I prayed for their minds and that they would grow up to become godly women. I prayed for his wife, that she would be the best help meet that she knew to be. I prayed for their physical safety. I noticed the plastic shield around the stage last night. I still felt like they were very vulnerable from my birds eye view while watching on TV. May the Lord keep them safe in the palm of His hand while President Elect Obama is leading our country.

3. Prayer consists of various parts, of supplications, intercessions, and thanksgivings; for we must pray for the mercies we want, as well as be thankful for mercies already received; and we are to deprecate the judgments which our own sins or the sins of others have deserved.

I will be giving thanks with my family this morning for the opportunity to vote yesterday (or earlier actually) safely, quietly, with out coercion. I will be giving thanks for the freedoms this country affords still and thankging God for His word that gives us such specific commands on what to do -- even the day after an election day. I will be giving thanks for the many men and women who have given their lives in the various wars for my freedom today. I praise God for how he will be highlighted in the many years to come as we have to stand up for morals that we believe are vital to our walk with God, as I'm sure they will be challenged many times in the future. We will have an opportunity to declare, we love the Lord and we can not allow his name to be dishonored so. We love God and he created all things equally. We love God and we will not allow you to desecrate his creation in such a manner. We love the Lord and will honor Him in all we do. Thank you for those opportunities to come to give a reason for what we believe.

4. All men, yea, kings themselves, and those who are in authority, are to be prayed for. They want our prayers, for they have many difficulties to encounter, many snares to which their exalted stations expose them.

I'm going to pray that President Elect Obama will be humble, and seek advice of those around him, and that God will place godly men and women in his path and they will stand up with God's word and show the right way. One can always pray. Ü

5. In praying for our governors, we take the most likely course to lead a peaceable and quiet life. The Jews at Babylon were commanded to seek the peace of the city whither the Lord had caused them to be carried captives, and to pray to the Lord for it; for in the peace thereof they should have peace, Jer_29:7.

I think we have to keep in mind that the day we live in is not even so bad as what others are living in currently, or have lived in the past. But the truth still holds. We need to pray.

6. If we would lead a peaceable and quiet life, we must live in all godliness and honesty; we must do our duty to God and man. He that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile; let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and pursue it, 1Pe_3:10, 1Pe_3:11.

We Christians will show our stripes today by what we spew out of our mouths about the last 2 years of campaigning and the final results.

I know one thing for sure. Now is the time to fall on our faces before God and cry out for him mercy and grace. All the while -- holding up our leader before the throne.

Why I Use An Absentee Ballot

I know this is an unpopular choice sometimes... but I really do prefer to use an absentee ballot for elections.

Can you guess why?

Because of the Judges.

When you go into our booth to vote -- you may pull down the Straight Party Voting lever... or you may not. You may choose to write in a few candidates names... just to keep things exciting. I voted for my husband this year... I wrote him in as an Indiana Township Trustee. So I never go the straight party route -- BUT... if you do -- you STILL have to vote on... the -- JUDGES.

That's RIGHT. The Judicial Ballot.

This year --we Iowas are voting on 3 Supreme Court Judges. and 3 Court of Appeals judges. I'm also voting on 2 District 5A Court judges.

Do the names Daryl Hecht, or Terry Huitink or William Joy ring a bell? NO?? Well -- of course not... we know nothing about judges. And they are NOT to be partisan. (pppsssshaw) So you can't vote down the party line on the judges. You MUST be informed before you ever go in there on how you will vote. Well -- if you are like me and you don't even know WHEN a judge will be on the ballet, let alone how that judge... thinks... you will be voting UNEDUCATEDELY. It's a word... look it up.

Side Note: We are also voting on changing some constitution wording from "idiot and insane person" to something much more nice and less offensive. HA HA... I'm so offensive. I voted NO -- I like the words idiot and insane. I use them all the time. What's wrong with that?

Never mind... let's get back on topic. I hope I didn't offend all the idiots and insane readers today. Sorry...

OK -- so I vote with an absentee ballot... open it up -- get my blue ink pen and turn the ballot over -- yep -- they are so important they are clear over here on the back... then I google Iowa Judicial Ballot.

Hey - they missed... "They can READ the constitution." LOL What makes a good judge? A good judge is one that DOES NOT MAKE LAW!! OK -- so, they didn't ask my opinion. Judicial Tyranny... it is too a word... look it up.

In the past, I haven't always been able to find a lot of information about judges, or haven't been able to interpret it very well... so I have considered WHO APPOINTED THEM. Hmm...

There is a survey out there, published on the NEWS ROOM -- of what the LAWYERS think of the judges. Interesting reading. Depends upon how liberal or Conservative the lawyers are if this is helpful or not.... but still good information to get hold of. ONE of the judges -- only 77% of the lawyers think she should be retained. Hmm... very interesting.

So fellow voters -- especially you Iowa readers -- grab your judicial retention voters guide, and a cup of java, and put your feet up and read a while.

Remember -- Judges do NOT have a RIGHT to be retained... especially if they don't deserve it.

If you do not agree with every issue on the one side... we need to agree AGAINST the other side. We NEED to.

We also need to fall upon our faces before God and plead for forgiveness as a nation for allowing these terrifying deeds to go on right under our noses. We must stand up and fight for those who are defenseless.

I'd suggest you go there and BOOK MARK that spot for some insightful reading over the next few days. Leave a comment while you are at it -- let's let our conservative leaders know how we feel about the work they are doing. I pray you would encourage them to keep on keeping on the RIGHT TRACK! Let them know you are praying for them, as God's Word commands us to. (Well -- I HOPE you are praying for them.)

A Caucusing We will Go

I went to my first ever caucus. I wasn't sure what to expect.

I was told by a real live political caller that I should be to my caucus site by 6:30 because they lock the doors at 7:00. Well -- I pulled into the drive through line at McDonalds at 6:15. When I was still in line at 6:28, I started to get nervous. Oh my... I'll be locked out.

I experienced my first ever traffic jam in this little town that I frequent. Couldn't believe it. It really wasn't a jam, more like a jelly. Everyone was polite... but I had to wait through a light. ::gasp:: Couldn't believe it.There were a lot of folks out caucusing tonight. We ate on the way (which in a small town isn't very far), and some of the smaller ones who haven't yet perfected the art of inhaling food weren't done eating when we pulled into the parking lot.

I had to park 3 blocks away. I stuffed the McDonalds food into my purse and said, "Let's get going... I don't want to get locked out."

My caucus location was a church. I think the biggest church in town, but I may be wrong.

When we got in there was a line zig zagging around the foyer. I was praying I was in the right line. A lady with a blue folder came along asking people which precinct then were in. I'm in the Indiana Township. Don't ask me what that means... I just am. I was in the wrong line, I discovered my line was very short. Woo Hoo! I got to jump out of line and go to this table that had no one waiting. It was so short that people didn't realize it was a line and kept walking in front of me. They were registering people to vote while they were standing in line and waiting. I lost my pen because I'd offered it to a man standing in line, but when I hopped out of line, there went my pen. But that's OK with me...

After signing my initials, using their pen, I then took my 3 tagalongs with me and found the Indiana Township sign. (Dan and the big boys had wresting practice tonight). We were grouped together by precinct. I found some neighbors. This was a good thing for me actually -- because my Democrat neighbors are pretty vocal, and they put signs up in their yard. I always felt a little like I was wearing the wrong colors on voting day. I think I need to start putting yard signs up in MY yard... I'm not alone in my neighborhood... just thought I was.


So we meeted and greeted some folks. There were no chairs left, so we stood for a while. Then the man in charge said we could sit on the platform stairs if we wanted to. We did. He also said people could sit in the hallway on some chairs. People could listen but not see. I didn't see many people opt for that choice. People want to see! ;)

We said the pledge to the flag, then voted on a leader, then for a secretary. All with a yeah or a nay. Wayne wanted to get involved. So after we all voted YEAH for the leader, he said "Anyone want to vote no?" Wayne said, "YEAH!" oops...


Part of the Iowa Caucuses is convincing others to vote for your choice. There were men who stood up for Romney, Paul, Thompson, McCain and Huckabee.


This man spoke for Huckabee. He was not an official Huckabee spokesman, I think, but he did a fine job. At the beginning when there wasn't an "official" spokesman - some one made a wisecrack, which I couldn't hear... but he got a few laughs. I think this man is known in town - people responded well to what he had to say. He's a better man than I -- I didn't volunteer to stand up and talk.

I wish I could find the numbers by precinct, but I can't right now. This map at the Republican Party of IOWA shows the numbers by county.

Here is a Google Map that shows the detailed results of all of Iowa from the Jan 3rd caucuses. It is amazing to me how Obama won with a total of 4,688 and Huckabee won by a total of 39,814. WOW -- those republicans really got out the numbers last night. No wonder I had to stand.

I live in Southern Iowa -- January 3rd is coming up quickly. You know what that means... JUNK MAIL!! Oh -- not really -- it means the caucuses are almost upon us.

An amazing amount of junk mail is Anti-Huckabee. He must be the guy with the target on this back. Very interesting.

I just finished reading a book about Clarence Thomas, My Grandfather's Son. Remember him? Anita Hill ring a bell? Well... reading about the Senate confirmation hearing debacle... then seeing all this junk mail full of negative about Huckabee... it makes me wonder.

I wish you'd go read here at the Truth Squad to see how Huckabee's opponents are twisting his words into some very interesting stories. Let me know what you think. Is he really the villain they are making him out to be?

SPUNKY over at Homeschool Blogger has a few things to say. If you read her articles -- take the time to read the comments too. They are almost as interesting.

Just a side note -- I got a phone call today -- one of MANY political phone calls I've gotten in the past weeks. Today the lady said, "We want to know if you were to vote today, who would you vote for, and who would your #2 vote be." I mentioned 2 names. Then she nicely said, "Thank you, and this phone call was brought to you by Huckabee." Well -- how about that. That's all they wanted to know? No bait and switch. No leading questions about any other guy. Very refreshing. I told THAT lady to have a nice day. LOL She laughed... YES she DID!?! She was real -- no recording. And you Iowans know what I mean... don't you.

My kids want to know if it's rude to hang up on a recording. Do you hang up? I know Susan does... she talks back to the recording. She said so -- go read it for yourself.

I sent it to Dan at work -- he's going to discuss it with his co-workers. So -- are their any cons to the FAIR TAX? What do all the people who have been working at the IRS do for jobs? No more tax returns to depend upon as a savings plan. LOL Hmmm...

today. Those tax preparers, tax lawyers, and
Internal Revenue Service employees, who are
typically well educated and well equipped
with transferable skills, have to find other,
more productive work. The projected 10.5
percent growth in the economy during the first
year of the FairTax will provide plenty of new
jobs. But the heavy compliance costs of the
income tax are like an anchor holding back
economic growth. We have nothing to show
for the $265 billion (greater than the current
federal deficit of $205 billion) that we spend
each year measuring, tracking, sheltering,
documenting, and filing our annual income.
Surely these valuable labor and capital
resources can be employed more productively
– for example, in following the money trails
left by terrorist, drug, and other criminal
enterprises, rather than in tracking every
American wage earner.

Apparently those IRS people -- they have to get new jobs. LOL Well -- good for them.

OK -- one more... I'm working on our budget right now... We just got my dear husband's bonus from his work this week... the government took out 43% of it... it's almost 1/2 gone before it even gets to our bank. Then I hear Mr. Huckabee say this...



Oh me... I can't imagine how my budget would look if my dear husband would get to bring home him entire pay check. And "prebate"... what in the world??? I've never heard of such a thing. WOW!! He was talking right to me. 1 income family, 5 kids... Fair Tax. I'm all for that!!
