It looks like there are a TON of quilts, we just hit the tip of the ice berg.

http://www.extension.iastate.edu/news/2005/may/301601.htm

I'd LOVE to do a tour like this... only not in a BUS... ugh.

Well -- I liked the barns with out the squares too... but the squares were what got us looking at the barns in the first place. Highway 20 is what we were driving on to get to Waterloo.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15568529902002209385noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3476057407834260026.post-7677351050768870072008-05-14T21:00:00.000-05:002008-05-14T21:00:00.000-05:00I was just going to post and tell you that this p...I was just going to post and tell you that this post needed words! I was wondering where you got all of the pictures of barns and how long it took to collect them. I have seen/heard about the quilted barns. If I remember right, you can get a directory to do a hunt for all of them - but I could be wrong.

Hmmmmm . . . I wonder if they would let us put up a quilt square on our pole barn house? :PThe Beginning Farmer's Wifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08930750761646770794noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3476057407834260026.post-81511308696030790262008-05-14T14:18:00.000-05:002008-05-14T14:18:00.000-05:00I love old barns. We stopped a farmer and asked...Yes, I do actually. We stopped a farmer and asked him. Some of the barns have QUILT SQUARES on them. They are for tourism. That's it. I was thinking it had some family symbolism... I was getting all nostalgic. Nope... purely for tourism. The farmers pay so much, someone else comes out and puts them up, and then tourist drive by and look at them. We got sucked it -- it works. LOL

These were taken on the way home from Waterloo on a small country highway. We think the barns in northern Iowa are kept up better because they have more livestock. They use them on a daily basis, probably.

My dear husband was so accommodating that day -- he even went off the beaten path a few times so I could get a closer look. Fun trip home.
